any progress in the SPARC emulation in MAME?

I'm asking, because more an more people ask me about a possible implementation of the Sparc modules for the Saitek Galileo/Leonardo in CB-Emu.

Nope. The simpler modules (such as Maestro) would have to be done first, and once that is accurate, add the SPARC.

HD6303 CPU emulation still needs to be improved too for the chessboard<->module IO protocol.

Ok, with so many unfinished tasks it's quite unlikely, that we will ever get these modules working, what a pity.

Why do you say that? If you look back just two years, you will see how much progress has been made in a short time. Who would have thought that one day we would have computers like Turbo King, Corona, RISC 2500, etc.?

yes, you're right with "look back just two years", but I don't want to "look forward another two years" -
in 2 years I'll probably not be here anymore (maybe not even be alive).
And I intend to finally stop my CB-Emu project with the end of this year, so there are only a few weeks for possible new engines.

Anyway, what I understand fhub meant: Indeed there are a lot of tasks until Saitek SPARC can be added.
- finish leonardo/renaissance drivers
- improve HD6303 emulator
- figure out module<->chesscomputer I/O
- add Maestro module and make it work
- add SPARC module
- possibly have to improve SPARC cpu emulation too

Wenn das so ist, dann würde ich noch gerne 2 Weihnachtswünsche anbringen :

1. Scisys Sensor Chess Hypermodern Module
(Falls das jemand hat, könnte er es berger oder mir für einen ROM-Dump zusenden, ich würde es natürlich ganz sorgfältig behandeln und zurückschicken. Weil ich einen Adapter dazu gebastelt habe, müsste ich auch das ROM nicht entlöten..)

2. Fidelity Eldorado
Ron Nelson's letztes 8049 (2K) Programm von 1990, spielt besser als Mini Sensory II und berger könnte das sehr einfach auslesen.

Almost impossible within a few weeks, I' afraid.

And furthermore there were so many changes in MAME in the last months, so I'm not sure if I would be able to backport any new code to the previous (only 6 months old!) version 0.220.
(I even see in the MESS forum, that currently many devices in MAME aren't working correctly just because of all those recent changes, that's why the November release has been delayed).

Ok, I understand you. For my part, I don't think I'll be able to provide anything new before the end of the year. I have several things pending, but I will need more time. As far as I can see, you'd better start fine-tuning that latest 2020 version of CB-Emu, and we'll see what happens in the future!

Who knows? Maybe in a few months or a year, you'll have the will and energy to continue. Anyway, it is remarkable what you have achieved so far.
