Einen schönen guten Morgen!

Ich hätte mal eine Frage: kennt sich jemand mit diesem LCD-Zusatzmodul für das SuperSystem III aus?
Ich verstehe nämlich die Funktion dieses Schalters LOOK nicht, und Handbuch finde ich auch keines.

In der unteren Position (NOW) reagiert der LCD-Schirm wie erwartet, d.h. es wird jeder gegnerische Zug auch sofort angezeigt. In der oberen Position (MOVE) allerdings ist das nicht der Fall, hier wird der gegnerische berechnete Zug erst dann am LCD-Brett angezeigt, wenn man beginnt, seinen eigenen nächsten Zug einzugeben!

Ich kapiere nicht, wozu das gut sein soll!? Oder hat diese Schalterstellung noch irgendeinen anderen Zweck, den ich nicht kenne?

ehrlich gesagt habe ich zwar das Gerät komplett mit allem Zubehör ... und habe (in den wenigen Versuchen, in denen ich mich mit dem Teil beschäftigt habe) auch nie den Zweck dieses Schalters verstanden ... Du bist also nicht allein. Ich gebe zu, das Set war damals ein aus heutiger Sicht idiotischer Kauf ... das Gerät spielt furchtbar, aber damals war ich der Meinung, alle "Kult Geräte" habe zu müssen ... außerdem gab es den damals in Massen in der Bucht für kleines Geld. Ich habe damals keine 30,- Euro bezahlt ... nun lagert er zum Verdruss meiner Holden auf dem Dachboden ...

Aber vielleicht wirdf dieses Rätsel nach rund zehn Jahren nun gelöst ...

Aber wenn Du das komplette System hast, dann müßte doch auch das Handbuch zu diesem Zusatzmodul dabei sein, oder?
Was steht denn da zu diesem Schalter drinnen?

In the NOW position, moves are reflected as they happen. It is after the computer has made its move that this switch makes sense: by placing it in the MOVE position, you can see the position "before" the computer's last move.

Well, the engineers who designed the electronic circuits, didn't do very well either... the design is really a mess, really crazy...

Here's an excerpt from the manual, it was scanned by Achim. It explains the LOOK switch, and also tells about LCD flickering.

hap, there's still one strange behaviour with this new LCD-board:

If the chess unit is switched OFF (in the configuration), and you switch it ON again (e.g. when using the engine the next time), then this segments testing (described in the manual) doesn't stop, i.e. all 64 queen are flashing forever. You can only stop this by either making a reset, or pressing the CE or NEWGAME key.

Is this the normal behaviour of this chess unit, or is there maybe any signal missing, that should be sent to the unit when switching it ON?

Regardless of the answer of hap and the actions he performs on the driver, please note that on the real machine, there is no possibility to turn the Chess Unit off and on independently.

Ah ok, that may explain this behaviour, thanks!

I'll test if it I could send a simulated CE keystroke in the driver after switching on the chess unit, but I'm not sure if this is possible at all in MAME.
