Re: Die tollen Schachprogramme von Arne Bailliere
Hi Arne,
I use the Analyse feature within Fritz 17 or Chessbase using Stockfish 17 and save it as a PGN before posting. I then open the PGN in Arena and copy it to the forum. Clive |

AW: Die tollen Schachprogramme von Arne Bailliere
After several tries trying to find an Elo level that could serve for calibraiton on the Mephisto Phoenix , I decided to give it another try. Untill now The Chessmind Fisher personality at 1800 elo , which means the engine searched 9 ply deep and provides 10 moves (10 mulit Pv, successively beath the elo levels 2000, 2100, 2200 for Stockfisch on the Mephisto Phoenix in 15 minute games. But there is some uncertainty as to whether these elo levels include errors or randomness on purpose. which does apparently not work so well vs the Chessmind plan- based GM style system even at limited depth . Then i tried the 2200 Hiarcs elo level but here too the Chessmind Fischer 1800 personality , with some dificulty though, eventually prevailed.
So i decided to switch strategy , and have the opponent level set to Hiarcs fixed depth 9, no elo limit no time limit. Since Chessmind Fischer at 1800 elo is also limited to 9 ply fixed depth , at least we should not be unsure whether the UCI limit strength or other hardcoded randomness should intervene in the play. So hiarcs could calculate everything untill ply 9 and then make a move, which sometimes took 2 minutes or more . Unfortunately we could not finish the whole game since a the same time i discovered a bug in the clock in the Play mode: The time kept running even after Hiarcs made a move ! But by that time .... the position was crushing again for the Fischer 1800 elo Chessmind Personality . There was a wild 27 ...b5 (!?) move by Chessmind Fisher, giving away a pawn, but at the same time making sure (i think) that the black pawn chain in the Q Side could no longer be attacked. I am unsure on how to interpet this all and will keep on testing.

For the calibration of the ELO Levels I see two main problems. First, you need a lot of games to estimate the ELO rating. I'd say 20 games to estimate an ELO with deviance of +-100 which is still a lot. Because you want to test not only one rating, one opponent and one setup the best way would be to do the testing automated, either by implementing a UCI or xboard interface to GUI or engine. The second problem is that the ELO values on different websites and of different Engines with adjustable strength don't match each other at all. If you want to calibrate to human or FIDE ELO, IMHO the ELO of the dedicated units mentioned on this page match best. You can use the engines of CB-Emu for calibration. If you implement uci or xboard interface to the engine you can do this automated within Arena. I did a lot of testing in the past. The ELO levels of Shredder and HIARCS are well calibrated. Both only reduce the calculated nodes and do not blunder on purpose. Here are the tests: https://open-chess.org/viewtopic.php?p=17735#p17735 Geändert von AlexS (22.02.2026 um 08:59 Uhr) |

Thank You Alex! to day we continued the testing with the 9 ply Challenge . This time the Chessmind Capablanca personality vis Hiarcs 14.2 both at fixed depth 9 ply, to find out how the plans system influences move selection. i have also added a selected printout form the Terminal output t offer a peek behinde the system. I mus say a tthis point, I am discoverign as much as everybody else how a ll the components are converging into one system.
there is one last update underway to fix the screen rendering issues once and for all and then i will have to stop working on the project before my girlfirend kills me. We will need a new name though, so if anyone has suggestions pleas feel free to share your ideas.
