Re: Dedicated Chess Computer Tourney
This time the RISC builds up some pressure and makes the win look easy.
What a difference from the RISC Aggressive mode. I have found on longer time controls the 'Aggressive' setting plays very well and I had thought that it might be that bit stronger. However it has played very poor here at Game in 30.

Re: Dedicated Chess Computer Tourney
Let me put this thought to you. Let us say that a GK2100 running a 1MHz will look at 100 moves a second. And lets say that an average move time at game in 30 is 30secs.So a GK2100 running at 1MHz at game in 30 will calculate 30x100= 3,000 moves in 30secs. The CB-Emu GK2100 at 32Mhz at game in 30 will calculate 32x30x100= 96,000 moves in 30secs.
Best regards Clive After reading this Post the other day it was in the back of my mind to respond to you, as I would still lean towards Paul's argument. To keep it simple lets say: The normal 32 Mhz plays 1000 moves in 30 seconds. You speed Mess up by x3 and now have 3000 moves in 30 seconds. But the times 3 speed means that it now plays its move in 10 Seconds. So therefore no benefits except for when it ponders an opponents move which can be blessing or a curse as more often or not the old computers used to do a lot of their blunders as a result of their pondering. (for pondering your argument is correct since your opponent will still take its 30 seconds.) Therefore if you were to genuinely get 96 MHz you would ideally need to turn off pondering to be fair on your opponent and set it to 90 seconds per move so that its 3x speed increase continues to play same time as your opponents 30 seconds per move? ps... that's assuming you want to play it at 96 Mhz. Otherwise the only advantage you give to yourself is the ponder time. I was not sure about what the times 3 meant. Regards Nick Ooops a further ps...having a dumb moment. If you are playing at 96 Mhz = 90 seconds per move, then ponder is not relevant (sorry about that). If playing at 32 Mhz and 3 times speed it is. Geändert von spacious_mind (Heute um 00:27 Uhr) |

Re: Dedicated Chess Computer Tourney
Hi,
some complexity (but not so much) arises using two acceleration means: the optional device configuration at 32Mhz instead of 20 (we are talking about the external clock) and the times 3 thru CB-Emu speed-up. Main issue is the GK2100 doesn't adapt its internal clock: using 32 Mhz instead of 20, the pitch of its beeps is higher, and seconds on the display run faster. Hence if you don't adapt the level you only benefit from the pondering system (the GK2100 computes deeper while awaiting its opponent which is using full time, and the opponent benefits less from its own pondering as the GK2100 moves faster). Of course, no device adapts its internal clock to the "external" CB-Emu speed-up. At active chess time control, 30 secs/move, level can easily be adapted to fully benefit from whichever speed-up: - 32 Mhz instead of 20, level B1=45 secs/move fits (close enough to 48s, the theoretical target) - x3 speed-up, level B3=1.5 mins/move fits But there is no available level to fully benefit from both, this would require 30s x 32 / 20 x 3 =2 mins and 24 secs/move. D8 level which you are using (90 minutes per game) is not enough, it only compensates for the x3 speed-up. Game in 144 minutes would be required (30 x 32 / 20 x 3). My conclusion is: your virtual device behaves as 20 x 3 = 60 Mhz GK2100 with some additional acceleration (32/20 ratio) that is not used for any deeper search (the device just pulls faster) but provides some advantage assuming pondering is on. AW: Dedicated Chess Computer Tourney
Hi Tibono, Clive
First: the GK 2100 runs originally at 10 MHz. Next: Using the CB-emu for the speed up causes a lot of confusion. Test: So for a start, I guess you tell the emu to run the GK 2100 at 32 MHz. Then choose level 30 sec/move. Or game in 30 minutes. And play a number of moves. As the clock of the GK 2100 runs 3 x faster then normal, you would expect that the average move time will be around 10 seconds. Is that so? Or does it 30 secs average in real time? That would make clear how it works with the CB-emu. Paul .
