Re: Dedicated Chess Computer Tourney
A very even game with the Amsterdam finally getting the advantage only to give it away. The Lyon doesn't give the Amsterdam a second chance and takes over to win comfortably.
This is the first time the Amsterdam has lost as White.

Re: Dedicated Chess Computer Tourney
It seems the Amsterdam has met its match!
The Lyon plays carefully and manages to do to the Amsterdam what the Amsterdam has been doing to all the other programs. The Amsterdam blitzkrieg has come to an end!

Hello Clive,
This match was actually lost by Mephisto Montreux rather than won by Mephisto Amsterdam. Mephisto Lyon 68030 proved to be a step too far for the strong Mephisto Amsterdam.Best regards Egbert Geändert von Egbert (04.01.2026 um 18:54 Uhr) Grund: Ergänzung |

Hi Egbert,
Yes I think you are right. The last 10 matches are all going to be tough. Starting with the Tasc R30 2.5. Best regards Clive |

Re: Dedicated Chess Computer Tourney
The Tasc starts aggressively with the Three Knights variation of the Budapest Defence. The Tasc then gets the better position and is winning outright however it plays a couple of poor moves which then lets the Amsterdam back in. However it is not all plain sailing for the Amsterdam. But at the end of the day the Amsterdam makes less mistakes and manages a strong finish.

Re: Dedicated Chess Computer Tourney
A balanced game revolving around Whites isolated d Pawn. The Amsterdam finds a way to capture it and executes an excellent endgame to win.

AW: Dedicated Chess Computer Tourney
Hello Clive,
Wow... I'm really surprised that Turbo Mephisto Amsterdam beat Tasc. It's important to note that Richard Lang had already developed a really good programme with relatively few errors in Amsterdam in 1985. His opponents had to learn this the hard way at the World Championship in Amsterdam at the time. ![]() Best regards, Egbert |

Re: Dedicated Chess Computer Tourney
Hi Egbert,
Yes I hadn't noticed this before. The difference between the 1984 champion Glasgow and the 1985 champion Amsterdam is almost 300 elo. It takes Richard Lang about another 10 years and some super fast hardware to beat this! So the Amsterdam must have been quite a phenomenon when it was released. I also think that Game in 30 gives quite an advantage to programs running on super fast hardware. Best regards Clive |

Re: Dedicated Chess Computer Tourney
A balanced start for both machines until the RISC II makes a poor move. The Amsterdam takes over and easily wins.
