AW: Re: Dedicated Chess Computer Tourney

Zitat von Major Chaos Beitrag anzeigen
Hi Paul,

Tibono is correct in that the GK2100 is running at 32MHz. However the 3x increase is because I am running the GK 3x faster in time compared with the other machines. Ie it is running game in 90 in 30 mins where as the other machines are running game in 30 in 30 mins.

I Think Tibono thought I was speeding all the machines up 3 times which of course would not make any difference.

Best regards

Clive
Hi Clive,

I now seem (!?) to understand what you mean. But in my opinion we are still talking about a GK2100 32 MHz. But because it's clock now runs 3 times faster, you have to set the level at game in 90 minutes, which results in game in 30 minutes in real time. But it still runs at 32 MHz.
We also have the Saitek Centurion, a clone of the GK2100. I have one which is tuned to 40 MHz. So it computes 4 times faster then the original. Also it's clock runs 4 times faster, so to simulate level 30 seconds per move I have to set the level at 2 minutes per move. Then it computes 30 seconds per move average. This is not an extra 4 times faster, but only to compensate for the clock running too fast!
Remember that if you set the level of your 32 MHz GK2100 to game in 30 minutes, it acts the same as a normal GK2100, it will play the same moves as a normal GK2100, but plays it's move at 10 seconds average. So no deeper or better play at all.
So in my opinion (and I think of most of us) you should call it just a 32 MHz GK2100.

Best regards,
Paul

Re: Dedicated Chess Computer Tourney

Hi Paul,

First off let me just say that communicating on a forum on a point of view can sometimes appear offhand, condescending or even rude especially if you are using translation. If that appears to be the case in my post please accept my profound apologies as this is not my intention.

Okay, disclaimer noted!

Let me put this thought to you. Let us say that a GK2100 running a 1MHz will look at 100 moves a second. And lets say that an average move time at game in 30 is 30secs.So a GK2100 running at 1MHz at game in 30 will calculate 30x100= 3,000 moves in 30secs. The CB-Emu GK2100 at 32Mhz at game in 30 will calculate 32x30x100= 96,000 moves in 30secs.

Now if I set the GK2100 32MHz to play game in 90 and the average move time is 90secs it will play 32x90x100=288,000 moves in 90 secs.

Now if I then increase the speed of time x3 it will look at 288,000 moves in 30secs against the normal GK2100 32MHz move calculation of 96,000 moves in 30secs. So although it is a GK2100 32MHz unit it is doing the work of a unit 3x faster, hence the 96MHz claim. Would you not agree?
The reason I am calling it 96MHz is because it is doing the work of a 96MHz unit even though it is a 32MHz unit. If I call it a 32MHz unit (which it is) the results would likely not be correct as it is running 3x faster.

I suppose I could call it GK2100 32MHz x3 to be absolutely correct. After all this is only a fun and interesting exercise. And if my claim of 96MHz is upsetting people on this site I can certainly change it.

What do you think?

Best regards

Clive
