Beide spielten bis zum 16. Zug aus dem Buch; der Nigel Short hätte mit 37...Td1 bereits in der Aktivpartie alles klar machen können, was er jedoch verweigerte. Doch es kam noch schlimmer, denn er entschied sich, mit 44... Dd3? ohne Not seinen Mehrbauern zurückzugeben, was bei beiden Bedienern kollektives Kopfschütteln auslöste und die Partie remis enden ließ:

Und wieder musste der Nigel Short in die Verlängerung. Wieder wurde lange aus dem Buch gespielt: 15 Züge beim Nigel Short und sogar noch einen oder zwei mehr beim SFC. Dieses mal war es der Super Forte C, der mit 20...Db6? statt 20...Sxf3 den Gewinn verpasste. In einer Blitzpartie ist dies aber noch verzeihlich. Es kam zu einem Endspiel Turm+Turm gegen Turm + 2 Läufer. Aber schon bald ließ sich der SFC einen Turm einsperren, verlor die Qualität und bald darauf das Spiel:
