Hi Nick,
Unlike Chessmaster you can actually change the ELO on the personalities. They all default to 2000 ELO but with a slider you can change that. I looked up Karpovs top ELO which was 2780 and 2778 was the closest I could get. So you have the option of setting the engine at the same ELO or closer to the players best.
