Re: Dedicated Chess Computer Tourney
Sorry last post I promise.. It is just that this topic is so interesting to understand ponder handicaps with speed increases.
So in previous 5x example.
If you increase the 1x computer to 5x you now have:
5000 positions calculated at 30 seconds under Ponder.
The 1x computer would calculate based on its own 1000 positions in 30 seconds, now only 200 position in 6 seconds (30 sec/5)
So if you use that as a base you can now calculate a different computer opponent.
Lets say the different computer plays 17650 positions at 30 seconds. If my math is correct you just do the following:
5000/25*17.65=3530 positions played under Ponder in 6 seconds. So you know up front that the 5xcomputer under ponder searches 1470 positions more than the computer that originally searched 16650 more positions at equal speed settings, inside their respective Ponder times,
Let me know if there is anything wrong with the math. But I think this is important knowledge to know when setting up your matches with CB EMU.
Sorry Clive for adding so much to your game posts that was not originally intended by me.
Regards
Nick
