Re: New Chessnut Evo
I have just updated to the latest software on the EVO but it seems we have to read Facebook posts to find out what has changed. That being said, one big change for the Maia bots is that now we can select a maximum ply lookahead - up to a maximum of 6 - using a slider control. I tested EVO Maia 1900 at depth 6 against Shredder mobile set to 1897 (gave up trying to adjust to 1900 with the tiny slider!) for one game only but already can see a huge improvement. For one thing, it did not make foolish blunders and this game ended in a draw. I will conduct more thorough testing, but Chessnut have certainly responded to peoples' postings about its weakness. They have also provided an option to set Stockfish's maximum lookahead although not had time to experiment yet. I have suggested that Chessnut provide an additional option on the Maia bots of being able to set larger lookahead values for experimentation. There will likely be diminishing returns with large depth values but fun to experiment with.
It may now be more feasible for Chessnut to achieve the Maia2200 stretch goal.
