Hello,
It is not easy to do projects like this nowadays. For example, if I wanted to make another batch of GM Petrosian I would have serious problems: there are a lot of semiconductors missing, the price of the ones that can be found have multiplied by 5 or even 10 times compared to the price before the pandemic (there is a lot of speculation), etc.
Moreover, it is already confusing for me what to do and what not to do. Keep in mind that, if for example you want to enjoy old chess programs and you don't want to use emulations (e.g. MAME) but something "physical", you have beautiful chess computers like the ones developed by Ruud Martin (
https://phoenixcs.nl/).
I mean that developing a Brikett-type project with a single chess program, an "old-style" dedicated chess computer, taking into account the current costs, that once you have developed the design you may suddenly find that you no longer have the necessary semiconductors available, etc. is very discouraging.
Best,
Gerardo (aka Berger)
