AW: Oldies vs. Leela
Hi Mark 1, hi all,
Leela Chess zero is indeed a very interesting opponent, if played using the Blas version and one single core (anyway I don't have any compliant GPU).
- very low NPS and therefore little reached depth, but high skills and much knowledge --> this is exactly what gives enjoyment to many of us here (such as Mephi III lovers), and is close to human approach
-usually impressive positional play, able to report a deserved large advantage while the opponent chess program is definitely unaware of it for many moves, despite a lot of plies more in-depth analysis
- sometimes gambles away the positional advantage with a (not so obvious) tactical blunder, which looks like very human
- no need for opening books (unless you want to enforce more variability, but you can get variability using different nets)
- strength and knowledge adaptation thru choice of older/smaller nets (but old nets require to keep old lc0 exe versions accordingly)
There is so much room for experimenting!
Kind regards,
Tibono
