Yes, but since my driver runs as a DLL it can only do anything when the GUI asks it to, and there is no command to ask it to show the battery status.

So what you can do in LucasChess or Shredder is to disable the board and then re-enable it again. When the screen asking you to set up the position is shown you can look on the Config tab to see the current battery level before returning to the Position tab to click OK. Unfortunately this process will lose the move history in my driver so you won't be able to take moves back beyond the point where you enabled it. And it won't work in Arena as I haven't been able to get Arena to accept loading my driver more than once per session.
