They are not comparable situations. In the two CXG computers you mentioned, the 6301Y microcontroller uses only its internal ROM (Single Chip Mode). In Leonardo the 6301Y works in Expanded Mode, i.e. it has an external ROM (an EPROM) that contains the program. And Galileo doesn't even have an internal ROM (the whole program is in an EPROM), as it usually has a 6303Y and not a 6301Y.
In other words, Leonardo, Galileo and Renaissance, although some of them have a 6301Y, that microcontroller works in Expanded Memory mode, that is, with an external ROM (an EPROM in particular) that contains all the software, and which we can dump and therefore emulate. :-)
