Those of you who repair your Fidelity chess computers will know that many LED displays are currently failing, with a faulty segment or poor brightness.



I was recently trying to repair some of them. Repair is possible by disassembling and replacing the LEDs with new SMD units:

But the soldering should be better than mine (done by hand) so that the top plastic fits perfectly. So I have also decided to design a new replacement with modern components:
