Eric Belot (aka Blitzchess) - RIP

On 5 February, at the age of 60, Eric Belot passed away.

I have not been certain until today. We are all temporarily offline. I myself, due to health problems, was offline for a few months this spring. But the fact that he did not reply to e-mails, and that his website was down (http://www.blitzchess.fr/), which I'm sure you have all visited at some point enjoying that wonderful collection, has led me to contact the family today and confirm this sad news.

Well, let this post serve as a small tribute to him and all that he contributed to the community. We will miss you, my "blitzchess" friend. :(

Hello,

Really bad news.

Eric's site was for me in the top 3 of chess computers chess sites, and the first in French.
Beautiful photos of the machines, complete tests, with history and numerous crosstabs by test and brand.
The largest library of articles on electronic chess published in the French press.
All his work is still available (though some links are missing) on Wayback.

We battled IRL at the Saintes tournament in 2011.

It is very sad news. I used to enjoy and go to his Website a lot in the old days to look at his information on dedicated and engine matches and tests and also his great photos of his chess computers.

Eine sehr traurige Nachricht. 60 Jahre nur, viel zu früh…

Wieder geht ein Mitglied aus unseren Reihen viel zu früh. Ich wünsche seiner Familie viel Kraft in dieser schwierigen Zeit.

Ich finde es sehr schade, dass Eric’s Webseite offline ist. Es wäre so eine Art Vermächtnis bzw. Erinnerung an ihn gewesen.

Ja, ich weiß. Aber das ist nicht dasselbe, da z.B. Bilder fehlen. Das Webarchive ist nur ein verstaubter Blick in die Vergangenheit, vergleichbar mit einem Album, indem schon einige Bilder und Infos verloren gegangen sind.

Yes, I too believe that the website should have been kept as a legacy. I will check back with the family to see if this is possible.

Ich kenne hier nur einen Forumskollegen, der sich mit "Eric" gemeldet hat, das ist "Tibono". Handelt es dich bei dem Verstorbenen um ihn?

Nei, der hat zwar auch eine französische Website aber eine andere. Zudem war er heute erst online.
