Certabo DaVinci MessChess
 

One of the new features of the latest DaVinci software is the addition of MessChess which enables you to play against the old chess computer ROMS.

A handy tip for DaVinci owners who use these ROMS is to minimize the MessChess graphical display of the chess computer after it has loaded leaving just the DaVinci board. This is because the DaVinci takes quite a lot of time responding to your moves if the MessChess board is showing.

Below is the difference in speed between the Raspberry Pi 3 & 4 when the computer makes its first move. Plus five examples of the MessChess and Da Vinci boards response times for the computer making its first move then appearing on the Certabo chess board.

Obviously the Pi4 is a lot quicker than the Pi3 but the main gain in speed is to minimize the MessChess board.

Der Trick das Board zu minimieren funktioniert auch unter Mess Chess direkt (z.B. in Arena) auch hier wird die maximale Geschwindigkeit nach meinen Messungen deutlich höher.

I have now modified the number of ROMS on my DaVinci to one per chess programmer as 300 roms was too many to be scrolling through on my little 3.5" screen.

It will be nice to play against programmers like Aker, Jennings, Johnson, Taylor, Goodridge and Broughton even though some of their programs are quite weak.

Obviously the big boys are there too but only one chess computer each including Richard Lang (La Regence), Spraklen's (Fidelity Excel 6800) and Franz Morsch (CXG Dominator).
