ROM versionen: BIOS Einstellung oder separate Treiber
 

In MAME/CB-Emu, chesscomputer ROM versions are presented with 2 different methods. Separate sets (my preference), or BIOS sets (Sandro's preference).

For example, to load RISC 2500 version 1.03, you change the BIOS setting. But to load Chess Challenger 10 version A, you load it with the cc10a driver. What is your preference? If there is a large difference in opinion, I'll consider changing it in MAME. fhub, maybe you can explain in German?

I also prefer separate drivers, because for the BIOS selection you have to use the Tab menu (which is more complicated) and you also have to know that such a different ROM version exists at all.

Edit: OTOH it would be a huge work to change this for the existing devices, because there are a lot of engines with different versions defined in the BIOS. For my package it even would be still more work, because I'd not only have to change these engines in MessExtra but also all corresponding references to them in CB-Emu itself. So I'm not sure if I would really do this, if you decide to make these changes in MAME.

BTW, I don't think a German translation is necessary, I'm quite sure that everyone here understands English as well. ;)

The changes on the source files would be minor, just some cutting and pasting. ROM files can remain same, MAME 'clone' sets will load roms from 'parent' sets if it can't find them.

The only problematic ones are the Fidelity voice roms, these are a jumper setting+different rom. I think I won't change these.
