I'm having trouble getting my MMIV, LCD and HG440 working on my Munchen board. I can get it to work using my 32-bit Lyon adaptor module but I can only use two module bays so no LCD or HG440. When I use a regulated 5 volt, 1500mA mains adaptor it works ok for a few moves then goes haywire and glitches out and the board and module become un-useable. Does anyone know if it is possible to get the MMIV, LCD and HG440 working on a muchen board? Is 5 volts regulated the correct voltage? Can someone also post instructions or a link on how to do the internal voltage regulation modification? |

It seems to be a problem with voltage (because everything is fine with Lyon adapter module).
I'm not sure whether München "S" boards exist... But I think: no. That's why I guess the problem is with the external voltage of 5V. You should use a power adapter which delivers 8-9 Volt or more. Inside the München board there is a 5V voltage regulation unit. It can not work with 5V from external plug because it needs a voltage difference of minimum 1V to control the voltage of the modules... "Plus" has to be inside the plug! And "minus" is outside. HGN 5001 or something like that is fine. It doesn't has to be regulated. |

Sorry, I was wrong. München S exist!
So, please, check first what type of München board it is. If it is an "S" type you can slightly increase voltage of the extern power adaptor. The reason is a power drop of 0,5 V (it depends on power consumption of the modules) inside the chess board in result of (too) weak power cables... Otherwise see above: simply use 8V adaptor. |

Yes mine is a Munchen-S board.
I believe I tried up to 9 volts with the same problem but will try again. People tell me not to go above 5V with this kind of set-up (Munchen&MMIV) but MMIV on Exclusive needed 8V ... Thanks |

I guess, 5,5 or max. 6 V could work... best regards, Robert |

If it is an "S" then 8V will be too high! Try 5,5V or a maximum of 6V...
Do you have the possibility to check the voltage on the extern power adaptor during the München board is working? A pragmatical idea would be to integrate the HG440 Eprom into the MM IV module and play with Lyon power adaptor module. But this would be only a workaround and not a real solution. |

Hallo Robert, Du warst einen Tick schneller, aber was für eine Einigkeit bzgl. der Spannung 5,5-6V. :)

While the Risc modules may fry at a little over 5V is there any chance MMIV/MMV are OK to 8 or 9V? Also is there any chance faulty circuitry inside the Munchen board could cause this kind of problem? The ribbon type cable near the power jack seemed a little old and stiff when I opened it up to replace some reed switches... Danke |

No sorry I'm not confident to check the voltage while the Munchen is running. I'd be looking to sell the Lyon Modul set once the MMIV is running on the Munchen so not a suitable solution. |

Don't go on more than 6V!
Lyon Adaptor module, MM IV and HG440 are running fine? (In this combination?) Yes, the problem could be inside the München board. It could be a weak power cable (ribbon type) or a loose connection or slack joint. To check this, you could open one of the modules (I would prefer HG440) and measure the voltage with a multimeter (Pin 14 and Pin 28 on the EPROM chip). Have you tried another board? |
