Hi all!

I took a look not so long and saw that its opening book size is claimed as 30.000 half-moves, but all its clones show 6.000 - so my question is which information is correct and where it comes from (manual, prospekt, etc.)?

P.S. Also one more thing to ask about these Morsch's clone army: how its possible to have one device with 32kb ROM and 6.000 Hm book and other with 35.000 Hm book but ROM size still 32kb (MM-VI)? I always thought there must be additional ROM to have more space for storing a larger book... (like MM-V and HG-550 for example or Master Chess that has 64kb ROM)

in some successors of the GK2100 like the Centurion, they implemented 20 grandmaster games. Maybe they had to shrink the library for this?

We can count 20 games x ~120 plyes = ~ 2500 half-moves; where were other 21.500 Hm gone? :D

Also I have RS2250XL in original box and there's a writing about 20.000 :raffnix:

maybe the memory management was the reason? (just a guess)

and it is easy to compress an opening library, so it takes very little space. For sure, they were counting every ply in repeated openings (if there was just one different move in it)

Or maybe Saitek was afraid, that its library was too close to the Milano/Master Chess and wanted to give them a little push compared to the Centurion?

Got that? Yes? OK, then we look in the same catalog.

Only 2 pages next = 35.000 HM.

Fortunately, the catalog has only 20 pages. :rolleyes:

Ich vermute mal, H&G wussten selbst nicht so recht, was in ihren Geräten steckt. Die Angaben über die Halbzüge sind jedenfalls schon mal wirr.

Nehmen wir mal an, der GK2100, der MM VI und der Präsi hätten dieselbe Buchausstattung, dann ist es nicht ganz verwunderlich, warum die "Klone" mit weniger Buchzügen auskommen sollen: Zum einen sind da wohl meist diese GM-Partien eingespeichert und zum anderen wurde auch was an den diversen Modi geschraubt, was beides etwas an Speicherplatz frisst. Weiterhin sind die meisten Klone aus meiner Sicht als eine Art "Billigheimer" von H&G gedacht gewesen. Ich kann mir gut vorstellen, dass die angegebene Zügezahl kleiner ausfällt als die wirkliche (und/oder bei den Urprungsgeräten umgekehrt). Vielleicht wurden die Klone auch tatsächlich in ihrem Buchumfang beschnitten? Da die absolute Wahrheit (wenn es denn eine gibt) herausfinden zu wollen dürfte mit sehr viel Arbeit verbunden sein, denn vermutlich ist das "Full-Book" gefragt um die Geräte durchzuchecken. Naja, wem's Spass macht...

Ich für meinen Teil bin gerne bereit die Angaben seitens H&G zu den Büchern zu "schlucken" - das andere wäre mir persönlich zu viel Stress... ;)

In diese Sparte passt noch das Brute Force Modul von Saitek mit 24.000 Hz der ja auch ein Verwandter von MM VI und Co ist.
Noch eine Anmerkung zu dem Katalog weiter oben: dort wird ein MM VI "Schröder" gezeigt als Nachfolger des MM V + HG 550 mit 25.000 Hz, dieser ist ja wie bekannt nie erschienen, sondern stattdessen der MM VI von Morsch mit 36.000 Hz laut Hersteller-Angabe.
Allerdings spielt ein MM VI auch nicht mehr Eröffungen Aktiv aus seiner Bibliothek als der Artverwandte Centurion oder Cougar, die ja mit nur 6.000 Hz auskommen.

Hmm... so the choice becomes very tough... coz I want to buy one computer (GK-2100 or Cougar/Explorer Pro) and now really dont know what to prefer :wall: => larger book or higher tactical skill... any suggestions?

for me the choice would be clear: i would take the GK2100, as it does not have the Fun level and H8 resp. H-file bug (as it is not limited to H8): Bugs

And the GK2100/TC2100 can easily play with black from the bottom (thats a problem with the clones (i'm not sure about Cougar/Explorer pro))
