Schach-Computer für mich und mein Sohn (Mephisto Milano?)
 

Hallo,

Ich interessiere mich für ein Schach-Computer für mich und mein Sohn (9 Jahre alt). Ich bin ~1200-1400 ELO (England). Aus der Lektüre dieses Forum scheint es, dass zwei Modelle geeignet sind: die Mephisto Milano and Novag Obsidian.

Novag Obsidian bietet Anfänger Ebenen (und Spaß Ebenen), ist neu und scheint sich zu einer vernünftigen Spielweise.

Der Mephisto Milano ist sehr alt, aber scheint ideal für Anfänger. Einige Fragen:
-- Ist diese Maschine zuverlässig?
-- Wie wird die Batterie Verbrauch - funktioniert es auch über Batterien allein ok?
-- Ist die Spielweise interessant?
-- Endspiel ok?

Hi Mark!

In my opinion the Mephisto Milano is a very reliable chess computer, offering a solid and interesting playing style as well as a noticable understanding of endgames, if compared to other "Elo 2000 machines". It has an adjustable playing strength from approximately Elo 1000 up to Elo 2000 and offers almost any level you may imagine. Even club players around Elo 1800 and above will not easily beat this program.

Concerning battery consumption I unfortunately never tested this machine, but during my own tournaments the Milano was able to manage several games in a row, while just being powered by rechargeable batteries. I guess, it will run at least 15 till 20 hours continously if you take alcaline batteries.

And take the "Milano" n o t the "Milano Pro" !!!

Pro is much stronger and can´t play weeker ! Many sell them because of this bug...
Take the normal Milano!

That's right! Milano Pro's "Fun Level" seem not to work and do not weaken its strenght. The only opportunity to get it weaker is to set a lower level and to switch of permanent brain. But still Milano Pro is much stronger than Milano. Too strong for beginners! Milano (without "Pro") is the best choice.

The Milano seems to be well liked. I guess I had better start checking ebay.de (most likely) for reasonable priced second-hand Milanos !

(I saw one in a German online store last night for 150 euros !! This seems very expensive for a ~15 year old Mephisto Milano).

150 Bucks for a Milano is by far much too much! They cannot offer it as a new one, because the milano isn't manufactured anymore for around 15 years. :vogel:
At ebay you may catch one in a good condition for approximately 50 up to 60 Euro, shipping not included. ;)
