Hi,

noch ein kleiner Zusatz zum letzten Gerät 'La Regence':

Da dieses Modell von Sandy Electronics (mit dem Zusatz 'TSB 4') auch mit deutscher Tastenbeschriftung vertrieben wurde, habe ich jetzt noch ein externes Layout mit deutschen Tastenbezeichnungen gemacht.
Falls jemand diese deutsche Beschriftung bevorzugt, dann einfach die Datei 'regence.zip' im Anhang herunterladen und ins Verzeichnis 'artwork' in MessExtra (und evt. MessChess) kopieren.
Standardmäßig wird dann dieses deutsche Layout verwendet, aber man kann natürlich unter 'Options > Video' immer noch zwischen internem (englischen) und externem (deutschen) Layout auswählen.

Was mir auffällt ist allerdings, dass die Emulation des La Regence mit 4 MHz läuft. Laut verschiedener Quellen im Internet (und auch laut unserem Wiki) sollte sie allerdings mit 8 MHz laufen.

Ferner fällt mir auf, dass es wohl 2 Versionen des La Regence geben soll. Der erste TSB 4 kam 1982 raus. Eine andere Version, deren Erscheinungsdatum mit 1983 benannt ist, soll wohl ca. 60 % stärker gewesen sein (wie auch immer man diese Prozentzahl jetzt ermittelt haben mag, aber so wurde es in verschiedenen Anzeigen beworben). Was ich allerdings nicht weiß ist, ob diese Version jemals in den Handel kam.

Zumindest die Taktfrequenz sollte man an diese Angaben anpassen und auf 8 MHz heraufsetzen.

I think one person opened the machine, saw the 8MHz XTAL and assumed the CPU is 8MHz. And this machine is so rare, that nobody verified the clockspeed.

It's the same thing that happened with the manufacturer information. Someone in the past assumed it's by Applied Concepts/Chafitz(why?) and every other website copied that information. The company that made this machine is France Double R. ACI/Chafitz were American.

Anyway, CPU is a Z80A.
Z80A = max 4MHz
Z80B = max 6MHz
Z80H = max 8MHz

Thank you for the Information about the CPU. Then, the 4 MHz are correct of course.

Regarding the Information about Chafitz/Sandy: There is a little more information about at the chessprogramming Wiki: "The La Regence was a commercial flop in France - in 1983 Ries' company went into liquidation and some of the remaining stocks could find their way to the Market, distributed by Sandy Electronic, the German company in the dedicated chess computer market otherwise associated with trading Applied Concepts aka Chafitz computers under their own brand."

That means that "Sandy La Regence" is OK because they sold it with this name.

I don't know if Chafitz also sold the LaRegence under their own name, but I doubt it. I didn't find any information about it.

Diese 60% könnten evt. auch eher 60 ELo bedeuten, was ungefähr einer Geschwindigkeitsverdopplung entsprechen würde. Als vielleicht haben sie nur die CPU auf eine Z80H ausgetauscht (die ja auch mit 8MHz läuft) und den Frequenzteiler (/2) deaktiviert - laut Prospekt soll man ja die CPU bei diesem Gerät austauschen können.
Ich hab jetzt jedenfalls mal in CB-Emu beide Frequenzen (4MHz/8MHz) auswählbar gemacht - ist allerdings noch nicht online, da CB-Emu schon wieder in den Geburtswehen mit einem neuen Schach-Baby liegt :D (der Treiber ist aber noch nicht ganz fertig).

Schach-Baby geburt? :O Der schachcomputer ist CXG Dominator, rom dump von Berger. Treiber programmieren ist fertig, artwork noch nicht.

For some reason this chesscomputer doesn't interest me much. Also, the chess engine was already playable (in Mephisto Modena)

Yep, of course this was just a joke, maybe hard to understand for someone who doesn't speek German. ;)

BTW, I just discovered a problem with my switchable CPU frequency (4 or 8 MHz) for the Regance:
if I switch to 8 MHz, then it moves 50% faster - I guess the timer is derived from the CPU frequency (although there's a fixed value of 400Hz in the driver)!?
Is it possible to change this value in my procedure 'regence_set_cpu_freq()'?
If not then I guess I would have to create an extra model with 8MHz.

Maybe level number is hardcoded at x number of calculations, instead of number of interrupts? If so, then changing the irq frequency won't have effect.

Yep, I guess you're right, because even changing the irq value to 800 (or 200) has no effect on the move time - only the LED blinking speed and the beep frequency changes.
So it doesn't make sense to make such an 8MHz Regence at all ... :(
