Hi Achim !

Grundsätzlich hast Du völlig recht - zumeist liefern Mostek- und Toshiba-ROM des Super Sensor IV dieselben Züge und Lösezeiten.

Aber ich kann mich an einige Stellungen erinnern, in denen es minimale Abweichungen gab zwischen Super Sensor IV mit Mostek-ROM bzw. mit Toshiba-ROM.

Wenn sie beide absolut identisch sind - wären dann diese Unterschiede in den Lösungszeiten bei beiden folgenden Mattaufgaben möglich ?

In diesem Zweizüger findet weder Novag Super Sensor IV mit Mostek-ROM noch mit Toshiba-ROM auf Level 8 (stärkste Stufe) die richtige Lösung 1. Tf2!!, aber stattdessen ein Matt in 3 Zügen mit 1. Dc2!
Das Mostek-ROM braucht dafür 57 Sekunden, Toshiba-ROM benötigt nur 45 Sekunden.

Diesen Zweizüger lösen beide korrekt mit dem überraschenden Damenopfer 1. Dd5+!!, die Mostek-Variante in 3 Minuten 29 Sekunden, wohingegen das Toshiba-ROM es in lediglich 2 Minuten und 30 Sekunden schafft.

Hmmm, 3:29 zu 2:30 - das liegt schon außerhlb einer gewissen Fehlertoleranz bei der Zeitmessung...sind also Mostek-ROM und Toshiba-ROM des Super Sensor IV doch nicht 100% identisch ?

Gibt es für diese unterschiedlichen Lösezeiten eine andere Erklärung ?

Most likely, there are multiple revisions of Super Sensor IV.

Berger sent me the romdump of CXG Dominator a while ago, it's an older version of the same program in Modena. The chesscomputer doesn't interest me at all so I don't have motivation to write the emulation for it :P

Re: Saitek modules: Indeed, the chessboard has its own CPU. Even the manual says that with a module inserted it becomes a dual-CPU system. However, that may be marketing blabla lies, and maybe the module takes over the complete bus and directly controls the chessboard (instead of communicating with the other CPU). I haven't looked into it thoroughly yet.

Hallo Hans-Jürgen,

die unterscheidlichen Zeiten können von der Geschwindigket der Roms/Eproms abhängen. Beim Abarbeiten muss die CPU ja ständig Code aus den Roms lesen und das dauert - später hat man oft die Roms ins RAM kopiert, um mehr Performance rauszuholen.

Das Toshiba-Rom hat eine Zugriffszeit von 250 ns, in meinem SS4 ist dasselbe drin.
Bei meinem Sensor Dynamic war auch ein Mostek drin, mit derselben Bezeichnung wie bei Dir. Diese ROMs haben teilweise Zugriffzeiten von 400 ns, sind also ein Drittel langsamer - das kann die Lösungszeiten schon erklären.

Ich glaube, 5611 1H und der Mostek ROM in Sensor Dynamic sind nicht identisch. Kein geschwindigheit problem.

Es gibt zwei Mask ROM versionen fur SS4:
- 5611 1H
- 5611 1I

5611 1I war identisch an Achim's Sensor Dynamic.

If you talk about Saitek Gallileo, Leonardo or Renaissance and the Modules for it, it is right. The chessboard with the main Program has a 6301Y CPU and offers the Levels a1-a8 and b1-b8, while the modules (like Maestro or Analyst for example) have a 65C02, the Brute Force Module a H8 and the Saitek Sparc has a Sparc-CPU.

I don't know if the modules take over the complete bus or directly controls the chessboard. I don't know if you can really call it a dual-CPU-System then, even when the additional module is in. By selecting the level, you define what programm you use and therefore what Processor is used. Levels beginning with a, b or c (e.g. Level c6) are the main Programm on the 6301Y, other Levels are the additional module with another CPU. Can you really call it a dual-CPU-System in this case only because the 6301Y controls the bus? I am not sure. Then also a 80386 with an additional 80387 would be a "Dual CPU-System"

I see, that sounds more and more like it actually communicates with the other CPU then.
Not for the chess engine calculations, but for button presses and such.

Yes, I think so. It is a little bit like with the final chesscard and the C64. Sound, peripherals, etc are controlled by the C64 and its CPU while the Chessprogram on the card is controlled by its own CPU

The only difference is that in this case the chessboard also has an own chessprogram, which is also available with the module plugged in by selecting one of the levels beginning with a, b or c. What I don't know is, if the board position is still available if I change the level in the middle of a game from e.g. f3 (module level) to e.g. b2 (standard level) or vise versa. But maybe someone who has a Leonardo or Galileo can test that.

Hat jemand PCB bilder von SciSys Mark VI's sensorbrett?

Ideally, I'd need the ROM dump from it (yes, it appears it has its own ROM). It can't be emulated right now.

Puh... da einen Rom-Dump zu kriegen wird schwer werden. Soviele von diesen Brettern wurden meines Wissens nicht verkauft zumal sie dann in der Serienfertigung die Figurenerkennung des Prototypen nicht mehr hatten.

Ich nehm die Emu auch ohne Sensorbrett... lach

Also ich bin mir ziemlich sicher, daß man statt des echten Sensorbretts auch das normale MAME-'sensorboard' in der Emulation verwenden könnte, wenn das originale Brett-ROM nicht aufzutreiben ist.
