As was already mentioned before, one of the EPROMS says "polgar". I think this may be (based on) the bookrom part of the first version of Polgar. It's partially unused in Mephisto T+T. Does someone have a dump of first version of Polgar? Or have a this chesscomputer in possession? Does the test mode (MEM->INFO) say "TEST-PROGRAMM" instead of displaying the version number? I'm not sure this is a prototype of Polgar. A prototype of Polgar would make more sense on Polgar hardware. |

Did ed tried to make a second academy engine after the first had been released ?!? Strange. |

I think it's a prototype module for Academy, based on the Polgar 1.0 program. An Academy-Polgar Frankenstein.
Such a module is not worth producing IMO, since the difference in strength between Academy and Polgar is minor. |

So you think after polgar came out they tried to make an upgrade for the academy, and this is the prototype?
2 things: Polgar is to be said to have a size of 64 kb rom. Academy is to be said to have 48 kb rom. (This makes IMO sense because most often later engines grow in size, isnt milano also 64 kb ?!) Irritating is IMO that it is said academy has smaller size (48) but in opposite to polgar (64) it has a bigger book. Is there so much „knowledge“ in polgar engine to be bigger even with smaller book ?? Imo we can only find out by bednorz tönissen or other position tests, what is going on. Then we can relate solution times. I guess academy and polgar were tested, so only T+T needs testing. We would then see if the solution times are identical to polgar, or to academy, or non of that. |

Both are 64KB :)
The Academy EPROM labeled "16KB" is a 32KB EPROM. However: Both only use 48KB. On Academy and Polgar, CPU addresses 0000-3FFF are for I/O and RAM. (and no ROM banking tricks) The file data for T+T is already very similar to Polgar 1.10, and I expect more similarity with the yet-undumped Polgar 1.00. Milano: Yes, also 64KB ROM. 0000-1FFF for I/O and RAM, so total program+book size = 56KB. |
