Hallo Tobias,

Re: Revelation II Owners Lounge
Greetings Revelation owners!
Apologies that my post is in English but I am joining this forum as a chess computer fan from the USA. I have been following this forum for years but just recently joined as a member. I am a DGT fan owning a DGT Centaur as well as walnut bluetooth tournament board with Fide weighted pieces set. I had purchased a Revelation 2 a few years back (2019). The first unit came with a cosmetic defect, possibly damaged in shipping and so it was returned. The second unit I almost kept, but there was a minor electrical crackling/buzzing noise that disturbed me. Both Revelation units exhibited this noise behavior. I have confidence that for most customers, they would never notice such a thing above the background sound level in their home, but I play chess in a very quiet setting and so it did disturb me, even from a distance of a few feet. I connected with DGT support and Ruud directly, but there was no concrete solution. On the HIARCS forum, I did have a fellow Revelation owner report that they also heard a similar noise. I have some suspicion that the sound may be more audible on AC rather than DC power, perhaps tied to the PXA320 specifically, although I cannot verify. With some sadness, I hesitated on the purchase and returned the unit. This brings me to the current situation! I have taken a renewed interest in purchasing one of the few remaining Revelation 2 AE units with the hope that the new CPU might behave differently in this department. Has anyone noticed this very minor electrical sound near the keys of their DGT Revelation 2? If anyone has experience with the anniversary edition, that would be of particular interest to me. I captured a video using a decibel meter and put it on YouTube (not public, requires this link view it): https://www.youtube.com/shorts/TRvlXqy4aIw Thank you! |

Re: Revelation II Owners Lounge
Thank you for the feedback!
One more question if you do not mind. I prefer playing the Hiarcs engine and I like the ability to select an ELO level. When I last tried the Revelation 2 with FW 3.22, it was not possible to save the engine settings for Hiarcs (or others), including the ELO. Have there been any improvements in this department? Is it possible to save the engine settings? If memory serves me correctly, it required a dozen or more key presses to get the ELO to the level that I desired (~1800). Thanks again, |

Thanks again, "Saving the engine options is not implemented. I understand this idea, but it takes some work to implement it. And will probably come to the 'alien' game. Please note that you cannot easily see that engine options have changed. An error in the engine options and you don't know exactly what's wrong with the restart... Then a rest of the engine must also be installed."

Re: Revelation II Owners Lounge
The DGT Revelation 2 that I had was REV2 PCB1, with V2.1 - appeared to be newer than the power board you have. Attached is an image.
