Of course this can be only done for very few devices deserving the several weeks effort you mentioned; the Constellation Expert was a great candidate.
Required part of the effort: double checking the outcome... to be useful, it has to be reliable. The printed output offered by the Constellation Expert does enable some checks. More of a challenge for other devices...
