If I debug MAME and listen to reads from the cartridge area, I do see activity during the opening. So it seems to be working fine. But as I said, it already has a large opening book internally(much larger than the module), it's hard to test.

It might be easier to test with the encyclopedia modules such as CG64. None of these were dumped yet though.
