AW: Match 120'/40 Elite V6 - Saitek Sparc
Hello everyone,
thank you Micha for the info. I had already seen the quoted forum post, but with the Sparc processor with "only" 7 MIPS something doesn't seem to be quite right to me. At the end of 1992/beginning of 1993 there was the Intel processor 80486 with 25/33 MHz.
In the issue 1/February-March 1993 of the magazine Computerschach & Spiele the following can be read on page 11 (topic: Computer Chess World Championship in Madrid):
"...In addition, Kasparov Sparc, a development of Dan and Kathe Spracklen, made his debut. The actual computing unit was housed in a Renaissance module. The super-fast (50 MHz) SPARC hardware (about four times as powerful as a 486) needed a small fan..."
Now the commercial Saitek SPARC "only" ran at 20 MHz, nevertheless the specified 7 MIPS should be a much too low value, especially in comparison with an Intel 486 with 25 or 33 MHz.
So, but now I don't want to torpedo this thread from Kurt further with hardware comparisons and look forward to the highly interesting match.
salute
Egbert
