Bryan, I wonder if you would be able to use your Solus Board with DOS Chess programs and DOSBox. Those old gems actually do support the keyboard in most cases. And you get their moves through the printer output like Donninger did with his auto232. Even better, you can run DOSBox on a Raspberry Pi
