Well, since it's being discussed here, I'll explain how the discovery went, because it was fun...
I sent a cartridge for Brikett II to
mclane, and he replied me with an angry e-mail because his Brikett showed these symbols in English instead of German!
As I knew that this rom is the same as the one we are using on MAME and it shows the symbols in German, then I thought that the rom must also include English, and that there must be a jumper in the Brikett... but I couldn't find it.
So I asked
hap for help, and after an analysis, he found that an I/O Flag value was used for this. Not only that, but he studied which other chess computers in this family behaved in a similar way.
From here I was able to study my Brikett properly and found the place on the PCB where the selection can be made, as it's not so obvious. Attached photos.
To the left of the optional jumper there is a resistor responsible for pulling up that I/O Flag, but as the resistor is 47KΩ it's not necessary to remove it if we want to install the jumper (to tied LOW that I/O Flag), as the resulting current from leaving the resistor installed is only about 130µA. But if you want to do things right, you can replace that resistor with a jumper.
Best,
Gerardo
ps.- Even if I write in English, please keep writing in German on this forum... it's no problem having translators.
